Concerns About Our Legislative Process

Have you noticed how much new legislation seems so familiar? In some cases, it seems, we must adhere to international agreements so we find ourselves lining up to financial, envionmental, safety agreements etc. Fair enough, I suppose. But why is our draft legislation approved by the by the UK Ministry of Justice before it is scrutinised by Tynwald? This is not the practice in other Crown Dependencies - so why are we doing this? When did it start? When are we going to put an end to it? The present practice seems to suggest that we need someone to hold our hand. Let's put ourselves on a level with other Crown Dependencies. We have the longest continuous parliament in the world, as far as I am aware. I think we are grown up enough to abolish the above practice.

Love the IOM. Help save our heritage.
